SHARPE, a FCDO program, partnered with Shabelle Bank to introduce digital financial services in remote areas of Ethiopia’s Somali region, enhancing formal financial inclusion for refugees and neighboring host communities.

FC supported the Gates Foundation with a Financial Diagnostic Study of Ethiopia’s agricultural extension system and other key agricultural areas to advance food security and drive growth for smallholder farmers.
The Gates Foundation, Ethiopian Financial Inclusion Execution Support

FC supported MoFED and the EFIP Steering Committee, overseeing technology service providers and MFIs to expand formal financial services into rural Ethiopia via cost-effective mobile and branchless networks.
FCDO, The Private Enterprise Program Ethiopia (PEPE)
(2013-2020)
The Private Enterprise Program Ethiopia (PEPE) was a DFID-funded initiative focused on private sector development in Ethiopia. It aimed to improve access to finance for businesses and address market failures, particularly within selected value chains like livestock and leather, cotton and textiles, and horticulture.
KFW, Capitalink
(2013-2017)
Capitalink was designed and implemented to strengthen access to finance through a €6 million fund management facility, combining a guarantee scheme and technical assistance (TA). It supported 2 banks and 6 microfinance institutions (MFIs) by providing refinancing opportunities, risk mitigation through guarantees, and tailored capacity-building support.

The Young Professional Development Programme combines work placements, boot camps, mentorship, and other development activities to fast-track young professionals into mid-level roles within 1–2 years, implemented in collaboration with public and private sector partners.
KFW, Agricultural Mechanization Leasing Project (AMLP)
(2013-2017)
AMLP enhanced access to modern farming equipment by importing high-quality machinery and offering sustainable leasing through the Development Bank of Ethiopia for smallholder and medium farmers, cooperatives, youth groups, and agricultural service providers, boosting productivity and growth.
Investment & Public Sector Advisory Projects
Identifying FMCG Targets in Ethiopia for an Investment and Management Firm
FC led market research and target identification for an investment and management firm, analyzing Ethiopia’s FMCG sector, identifying buy-out targets, and assessing demand, supply, and key importers and distributors across the top ten product categories.
Joint Credit Mechanism for Pacific Consultants
FC participated in the screening of potential projects for the Ministry of Environment of Japan eligible for the financing scheme, collecting pertinent information to prepare proposal, providing logistical support to PCKK and advise PCKK on local regulations and policies.
Business Plan for a Development Company in Agribusiness
FC developed a set-up of a venture capital holding company to finance agribusinesses in their growth ambitions while generating profits at various levels for the shareholders of the development company
Advisory Services for Green Field Investment in Poultry Sector
FC conducted value chain and stakeholder mapping, market dynamics and competitive analysis, demand assessment, feasibility studies, and developed comprehensive business plans for poultry enterprises.
Ethiopian Capital Market Scoping Study for ALCB
FC carried out a comprehensive Ethiopian Capital Market Scoping Study for the African Local Currency Bond (ALCB) Fund, assessing the feasibility of local currency bond investments in Ethiopia.
Business Climate Reform (BCR) Initiative
Through the BRIDGEs programme, FC was assessing Ethiopia’s Ease of Doing Business reforms to help the government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Office, design a nationwide Business Climate Reform initiative that fosters a more enabling business environment.
Implementation of the Ethiopia Tamrit initiative
FC supported the Ministry of Industry on the Ethiopia Tamrit initiative by providing a project coordinator who oversaw technical gap assessments, monitored manufacturing progress, and worked with key committees to resolve issues and advance sector productivity and diversification.
Diagnosing Public Investment Financing in Ethiopia
FC conducted a study for the World Bank on Ethiopia’s public investment financing system, compiling system data, stress testing the financial sector, identifying risks and vulnerabilities, and evaluating the resilience of Ethiopia’s growth model.
